Macrodyne Presses & Automation needed a verified Chinese steel fabricator capable of producing custom-dimensioned, ASTM A36-compliant structural steel plates for their hydraulic press frames. Luckee conducted full on-site verification — from raw material coil provenance to live XRF chemical testing on the floor.
Macrodyne Presses & Automation manufactures heavy-duty hydraulic presses and automation systems for industrial clients across North America. Their press frames and platens require large-format, custom-dimensioned structural steel plates — often exceeding 150mm in thickness — with strict dimensional tolerances and verifiable ASTM A36 material compliance.
Finding a Chinese fabricator capable of delivering at this specification, with genuine mill-traceability and reliable custom cutting capability, requires more than a supplier profile. Macrodyne engaged Luckee to physically verify the supply chain from raw steel coil to finished custom-cut plate — confirming that the material, the fabrication process, and the documentation were all genuinely in place.
The audit covered three stages of the supply chain in a single visit: the raw material yard (Wuxi steel coil inventory), the CNC flame cutting workshop, and the finished custom plate warehouse — with live XRF chemical testing conducted on-site on representative samples from the production batch.
The single most important verification for any structural steel supply relationship is chemical composition. Supplier-provided Mill Test Reports (MTRs) can be falsified, misattributed, or attached to the wrong heat. Luckee's auditor used a handheld XRF analyser directly on a representative plate from the production batch. The result: a confirmed carbon steel match with 99.74% Fe and 0.26% Mn — fully within ASTM A36 limits.
Six findings from the on-site visit — covering raw material origin, fabrication capability, dimensional compliance, and documentation quality.

No critical findings were recorded. The factory demonstrated genuine CNC flame cutting capability for heavy-gauge structural plate, confirmed ASTM A36 chemical compliance via live XRF analysis, and showed a credible raw material traceability path from Wuxi mill coils through to finished custom plates. MTR documentation was available and traceable. One minor recommendation was made regarding English-language MTR formatting for Canadian import documentation. Macrodyne was advised to proceed to a trial order with mandatory third-party inspection of the first shipment.
